The same theme, drawn upward. The Aetheron Kithara takes the Petite form — two glasses carried by the stem at the top of a thirty-six inch rise — and gives it the same finish as its companion piece.

The spiral is specially processed white oak, bent far past what the material is normally willing to do and finished in deep, unbroken black, so the glasses appear to float free of any visible support.

Beneath it, curly maple: the figure blackened into the grain, then covered in a red-leaning burst finished in the spirit of guitar making. 

At three feet tall on a ten-inch base, it stands well above everything around it while asking for very little room. On a coffee table, a kitchen counter, or the end of a bar, it becomes the tallest thing in view and the first thing anyone looks at. Glassware you would otherwise shut in a cabinet, presented instead.

This is the only Aetheron currently finished this way.

Materials & Finishes

The Apeiron and Aetheron

These are built from premium lumber and refined with carefully selected finishing products. Together, these materials demand precise, time‑intensive methods to achieve the level of craftsmanship expected of a premium piece. 

Lumber

The lumber used in the Apeiron and Aetheron is sourced from two trusted suppliers to ensure the exacting quality and characteristics demanded by its craftsmanship. Only boards that meet NHLA (National Hardwood Lumber Association) highest grade FAS, are selected to make the base. This ensures wide, defect-free clear boards are used.

Circular Base

The base of the Apeiron and Aetheron uses kiln dried white oak which is locally sourced from a family run lumber store. 

Spiral Helices

The spirals of the Apeiron and Aetheron  use white oak sourced from the only supplier in the United States that produces wood for extreme wood bending, going beyond how far white oak typically bends.

To ensure the stability of the spiral design, each helix undergoes a controlled drying process to reach a target moisture content before being reacclimated to its environment. The duration of this step varies depending on several factors, but because it is critical to the integrity of the final piece, the process is never rushed—whatever time is required will be taken.

Finish

Rubio Monocoat Wood Cleaner is used prior to the application of finish to the Apeiron. This ensures the surface is completely free of dust, natural oils, and handling residues while opening the wood pores. Proper cleaning is especially important — it prevents uneven absorption, enhances color depth, and guarantees the finish cures uniformly for long‑term stability and elegance.

Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C Pure is a premium, eco‑friendly, VOC‑free finish that enhances the natural elegance of wood while providing long‑lasting protection. Engineered to bond at the molecular level with the wood fibers, it delivers a single‑coat application that preserves the sculptural clarity of tight radius bends without masking the grain. Once applied it will take 5-7 days to fully cure. 

Rubio Monocoat SheenPlus is applied to create an understated semi‑gloss finish, enhancing the depth of the grain while keeping the wood itself front and center. Once applied it will take 5-7 days to fully cure. 

Single Edition pieces may use other products such as MINWAX's clear satin Wipe-On Poly and a ceramic coating.

Custom Furniture and Other  Products

All other Tech -n- Wood products are made with quality hardwood species. Domestic species such as Ash, Cherry, Maple, Oak, Poplar and Walnut are locally sourced from southern Wisconsin mills. We then choose what we believe is the appropriate finish for the product.

Ash

Maple

 Maple is a pale, fine-grained hardwood celebrated for its smooth texture and understated elegance. Its creamy white to light golden tones offer a clean, modern aesthetic, while the subtle grain patterns provide gentle visual interest.

Oak

 Oak is a classic hardwood known for its prominent grain and enduring strength. Its natural tones range from pale tan to warm honey, with a texture that adds depth and character to any surface.

Walnut

 Walnut is a dark, richly grained hardwood admired for its deep chocolate tones and elegant texture. Its bold figuring and smooth surface lend a sense of sophistication and warmth to any design.
